Here's a new little portion of our blog dedicated to my favorite hobby recently... saving money! (mo money, mo problems)
As I find something new and fun that saves a bundle- I'll share it. Please share your creative money-saving tips as well!

Numero one:

Homemade Yogurt vs. Store-bought Yogurt

Thanks to my lovely mommy dearest, I am whipping up yogurt like nobody's business- mostly because our cutie 2 year old could eat it with EVERYTHING.
She shared this recipe with me over Christmas and I've been yogurt-making ever since and saving a bundle at the grocery store.

You need:

A crockpot
8 cups whole milk
1/2 cup plain active culture yogurt
A cheesecloth

Pour 8 cups of whole milk into your crockpot (I call it the wife) and cook on low for 2 1/2 hours. Then turn it off for 3 hours. Scoop 1 cup of the warm milk out of the crockpot and wisk 1/2 yogurt in. Add the mixture back to the crockpot, wrap the wife in a towel and let sit for at least 8 hours... and VOILA! You have yogurt.
To make it greek, strain the yogurt in a colander and chessecloth and let sit in the fridge for a few hours.
We add honey, syrup, preserves, applesauce, granola, or whatever else we have on hand you give it a little extra sweetness.

But wait...here's the best part

For half a gallon of greek-style strained yogurt it will cost you $43.92 at the store
To make the homemade version $1.50

Love it!

Live

Live. And Live Well.BREATHE. Breathe in and Breathe deeply. Be PRESENT. Do not be past. Do not be future. Be now.On a crystal clear, breezy 70 degree day, roll down the windows and FEEL the wind against your skin. Feel the warmth of the sun.If you run, then allow those first few breaths on a cool Autumn day to FREEZE your lungs and do not just be alarmed, be ALIVE.Get knee-deep in a novel and LOSE track of time.If you bike, pedal HARD… and if you crash then crash well.Feel the SATISFACTION of a job well done—a paper well-written, a project thoroughly completed, a play well-performed.If you must wipe the snot from your 3-year old’s nose, don’t be disgusted if the Kleenex didn’t catch it all… because soon he’ll be wiping his own.If you’ve recently experienced loss, then GRIEVE. And Grieve well.At the table with friends and family, LAUGH. If you’re eating and laughing at the same time, then might as well laugh until you puke. And if you eat, then SMELL. The aromas are not impediments to your day. Steak on the grill, coffee beans freshly ground, cookies in the oven. And TASTE. Taste every ounce of flavor. Taste every ounce of friendship. Taste every ounce of Life. Because-it-is-most-definitely-a-Gift. -Kyle Lake-
